Introduction | Business | Location | Introduction The Tata Power Company Limited (TPL) is a leading energy utility with a total power generation capacity of 2300 MW. It is a union of two entities, Tata Hydroelectric Power Supply Company (established in 1911) and Andhra Valley Power Supply Company (1916). The company generates electricity in places like Mumbai, Delhi, Jojobera, Jharkhand and Karnataka. TPL has undertaken big power projects abroad in countries like the UAE, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Algeria. In Saudi Arabia, Liberia, Iran, Sierra Leone and Algeria, it has also undertaken projects in power plant / utility operations and management. The company's subsidiaries include Tata Power Broadband Company, Tata Power Trading Company and Tata Ceramics. For the financial year 2004-05, TPL had sales worth Rs.39 billion. Business * Power expertise services: Setting up independent power plants (lPPs) and captive power plants (CPPs), and executing power transmission and distribution projects; Operation and maintenance services; Performance evaluation services of power plant equipment; Erection, testing, commissioning and trial operations in overseas projects; and management and plant operators' training projects in power plant / utility operations. * Oil and gas: TPL engages in oil and gas exploration and production.through Tata Petrodyne, a wholly owned subsidiary. * Broadband and communications: TPL is spearheading the Tata Group's thrust into broadband, starting with Mumbai where the company has an optic fibre network of 600 km in the city. It also has the 'right of way' in an additional 1,200 km in Mumbai. Location TPL hydroelectric plants are located in Khopoli, Bhivpuri and Bhira (all in Maharashtra). The thermal power plants are in Trombay (Maharashtra), Wadi and Belgaum (Karnataka), and Jojobera (Jharkhand). |
