Introduction | Business | Location | Introduction Lecturer-turned-entrepreneur Ramanbhai Patel floated Cadila in 1952. Cadila Exports was set up in 1967 at the Kandla Free Trade Zone. A full-fledged R&D centre was established in 1969 and it was recognised by the Indian government s Department of Science and Technology. Cadila s bulk drug manufacturing plant was set up at Ankleshwar in 1972. The company received the first award from Chemexcil for its export performance consecutively for two years from 1982 and the top award for export performance for the year 1985-86. Operations were restructured in 1995 and the company was renamed Zydus Cadila. Two years later, it registered the fastest growth amongst the top 80 Indian pharma companies. In 2001, Zydus Cadila acquired German Remedies Ltd. in what was the largest M&A in the Indian pharmaceutical sector. The next year it acquired Banyan Chemicals, a Vadodara based company with an US FDA approved plant. The company s first overseas acquisition was in 2003 when it acquired Alpharma France (The company is now known as Zydus France SAS). Business * Domestic operations: Zydus Cadiala is a big player in the domestic formulation sector. It markets these products through its divisions Zydus Alidac, Zydus Medica, Zydus Biogen, Zydus Neurosciences and Zydus Vaccicare. * International business: The group exports branded formulations to 43 countries worldwide. The company has also identified a basket of 20 global brands, which will be registered and promoted in all existing and future markets. It has a total of 560 product registrations so far. Zydus Cadila is also exploring possibilities of establishing a base in markets like Indonesia, South Africa, Brazil and Algeria. * Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API): The API division was started in late seventies at Ankleshwar, Gujarat. It meets the demand for APIs and basic chemicals in both the domestic and global markets. * Fine chemicals: Zyfine, the fine chemicals division of Zydus Cadila, produces high purity products for chemical industries by custom synthesis and contract research. Location Zydus Cadila s manufacturing premises comprise seven plants spread over the three states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa. |
